It is a great honor to speak with you again. As the Umzimkhulu Local Municipality, we remain committed to improving the lives of our communities through better service delivery, development, and responsible leadership.
Our municipality still faces many challenges, especially with infrastructure such as water and electricity. Many of our communities, particularly in rural areas, still experience backlogs in these basic services. Addressing these challenges remain a priority as we work to improve infrastructure and ensure that our community has access to reliable basic services.
Growing the local economy is also very important for the development of Umzimkhulu Local Municipality. We will continue to support local businesses and create opportunities for young people. By encouraging investment and working with different stakeholders, we aim to create jobs and improve economic growth in our municipality.
Our municipality is mostly rural, therefore rural development remains an important focus. We will continue to support programmes that improve livelihoods, promote agriculture, and bring services closer to our communities.
Our communities have also experienced challenges caused by severe weather conditions, including lightning and thunderstorms, and heavy rains, which have affected some households and infrastructure. The municipality will continue working with relevant stakeholders to strengthen disaster preparedness and support communities affected by these events.
We are also committed to building safer communities. Social challenges such as crime, substance abuse, and gender-based violence affect many families. The municipality will continue to work with community leaders and law enforcement to address these problems and promote safer communities.
We understand that development cannot be achieved by the municipality alone. Strong partnerships with communities, businesses and traditional leaders are important for progress by working together, we can build a better future for everyone.
I would like to thank everyone who continues to support the work of the municipality. Together, we will continue striving to improve delivery service and bring sustainable development to our people.
THANK YOU.
Yours is service delivery.
