ELECTRIFICATION OF MORE THAN 900 HOUSES

After series of robust engagements with the community of Ward 6 through Mayoral Izimbizo ( IDP & BUDGET Outreach Programmes), Umzimkhulu Municipality have tirelessly been engaging with relevant stakeholders to ensure that amongst many issues raised the thorny issue of electricity was laid to rest.

Whenever the community of Ward 6 got the opportunity to engage with Umzimkhulu Municipality they correctly raised number of service delivery issues, over the years. The significance about this community of Umzimkhulu is that whenever they raise issues, they never demolish what they have already achieved yet they never shy away from robust engagements. This kind of approach has predominantly natured and capacitated the leadership of this rural based municipality to further engage relevant stakeholder and also co-ordinate necessary resources towards achieving that.

In Dumisa Village 284 houses will be electrified by Zizamele Contractor while 639 houses will be electrified by Pamela Electrical in Gidlintaba Village. This achievement is well attributed to matured manner ESKOM has been welcoming to during the series of meeting held with Umzimkhulu Municipality. Speaking to the communities of these villages, Ward Cllr. Bongiwe Sibeni expressed her gratitude to the community of Ward 6 in general for their patience and for entrusting the municipality with such responsibility. Ms. Dlamini (a young person from the community) expressed their excitement on the day and how impactful electricity will be in their objectives.

After emphatically passed words of gratitude to this community, in his message of the, Hnr. Cllr. Mphuthumi Mpabanga called upon the affected communities to now implement projects that will elevate the ward economic spin offs so that the electricity should only be celebrated as a domestic tool but to further respond to some of the community needs. Cllr. Mpabanga, also directed his message whereby he challenged their economic creativity so that they further empowered by the existence of electricity in their ward. In his message, Cllr. Mpabanga continued to plead with their entire community of Ward 6 whom were not beneficiaries at this point in time, to hang in there hence there light is much nearer.
